Coast

We left Washington state and crossed into Oregon on November 6th. Our first stop along the way was in Pacific City. We camped at a Thousand Trails that is located right on the beach. We had a fabulous site complete with an ocean view. We spent most of the day walking on the beach and climbing the amazing sand dunes that line the coast of Oregon. Unlike at the Jersey shore, these sand dunes are not off limits. The only restriction is to be careful of the giant cliffs that suddenly turn into rock and drop to the perilous ocean floor below. While climbing one of these massive dunes, we lost sight of Dylan. Being the adventurer, he ventured on ahead of us and we quickly lost sight of him. We began calling his name and heard no reply. Starting to get nervous, Pete went around to the back of the dune only to find a gigantic cliff. He tried to get to the top of the dune but couldn’t gain access from the side he was at so came back around. Meanwhile, Christian and I caught a glimpse of Dylan. We frantically started yelling and he stopped (later he told us because he thought I wanted to take a picture of him). He came close to the dunes edge that dropped about 200 feet down to rocks below. We yelled at him to stop, so he went back to the top of the ridge. By this point, Pete had made it close enough to the top to get Dylan’s attention and bring him back down to safety. Needless to say, we were ready for a heart attack but Dylan just bragged to his brother about his great adventure! Luckily, we all made it back to the bottom in one piece. We decided to take a break from the beach after our near death experience and have some lunch at a local bakery called “The Grateful Bread”. As pictures of Jerry surrounded us, we enjoyed our veggie inspired lunch and took a much needed break. We then returned to the beach and did some more rock and dune climbing, but this time never let Dylan out of our sight!
